Farming put up an excellent showing on Friday night, falling just short at Elrosa by a 2-1 score.
The Flames threatened in the fourth when Tylor Shroeder led off with a double to right. Kyle Zierden flew out to right, and Cody Forre reached on an error by the shortstop, with Tylor holding at second. Brad Mergen reached on an infield single to load the bases, but a popup and strikeout ended the threat.
Farming scored their lone run in the sixth. Tylor Shroeder had an infield single, and Carter Kotzer came in as a pinchrunner. Kyle Zierden grounded to short, but Carter beat the throw to second. Cody Fourre sacrificed both runners up a base, and Carter scored on a groundout by Brad Mergen.
Brad Mergen went the first six innings for the Flames, giving up two runs and recording eight strikeouts. Tylor Schroeder followed with two scoreless innings.
The Flames are now 3-9 in the Stearns County League-South, with one league game remaining. The last home game of the season will be this coming Wednesday, July 18, when the Cold Spring Springers visit Schleper Brothers Field. Gametime is 7:30pm.
