Farming hung tough with the perennial Class B powerhouse Springers before falling 5-2 on a beautiful Wednesday evening in Farming.
The Flames loaded the bases in the seventh inning on a walk to Kyle Zierden, a single by Cody Fourre, and a walk to Aaron Einyck. But the Springers pulled off a nice 4-6-3 double play to get out of the jam.
Farming scored a couple of runs in the eighth to pull within three. Austin Areceneau had a bunt single, and Mitchell Thelen reached on an error. Both runners moved up a base on a groundout by Dylan Panek. Taylor Fourre delivered a clutch two-out single, scoring both Austin and Mitchell.
Brad Mergen went the first five for the Flames, giving up three runs on five hits while recording six strikeouts. Chad Mergen, Dylan Panek, and Taylor Fourre also saw mound action for Farming.
The last game of the regular season comes this Sunday when the Flames travel to Lake Henry. Game time is 1:30pm.
