The Flames built a big lead early then held on to defeat Roscoe 15-12 in a Mother's Day slugfest.
Farming pounded out 15 hits during the ballgame. Aaron Einyck went 3-for-6 and had two RBIs. Tylor Schroeder walked three times and scored four times. Cody Fourre had two hits and two RBIs. Brad Mergen and Zach Kaltes each had two RBIs, Newcomer Will Mergen had a clutch two-run double, while Craig Klein, Mike Kotten, and Dylan Panek each had an RBI. Carey Shay went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Coby Mergen, Chad Mergen and Hunter Mergen each reached based and score a run. Even Jeff Mergen, longtime first-base coach of the Flames, entered the game as a pinch runner.
In addition to the 14 hits, the Flames were also the beneficiaries of nine walks and six hit-batsman from a generous Roscoe pitching staff. So there was an awful lot of red and powder-blue on the basepaths this afternoon.
For the Flames, Brad Mergen started and went the first three innings, striking out six. Tylor Schroeder got the win going the next 5 1/3 innings, scattering four hits and giving up one run. Chad Mergen got the last two outs, giving up a run on five hits and getting the save. Thanks to a number of Farming errors in the ninth, Roscoe put up nine unearned runs that inning.
With the victory, Farming is now 2-0 and in first place in the Stearns County League--South Division. Next up, the Flames will host Lake Henry on Saturday, May 18. Gametime is 8:00pm.
