The Flames put up two quick runs in the first inning and made them stand as Farming defeated the Cold Spring Rockies 2-1 in state tournament play.
In the bottom of the first, Taylor Fourre led off with a double and went to third on a wild pitch. Issac Nett worked a walk and Ethan Navratil drilled a single, scoring Taylor and sending Isaac to second. A groundout to second by Nick Mergen moved the runners up to second and third, and Brad Mergen’s walk loaded the bases. Tylor Schroeder singled to right, scoring Isaac and keeping the bases loaded. Aaron Einyck hit a long fly ball to deep center to end the inning.
Isaac went 3-3 with a run scored, while Ethan went 2-4 with an RBI. Brad finished 2-2 with two walks.
Right-hander Scotty Lieser, a draftee from St. Martin, threw a terrific ballgame scattering 9 hits and striking out three.
Farming will play again next Saturday, August 31, at 4:30pm in Delano.
